RED ORCHESTRA - 2001

LOGLINE: The legendary spy Hitler could not silence.

SYNOPSIS:  Based on a true story, RED ORCHESTRA is about Leopold Trepper, a Polish Jew who was the founder and leader of Die Rote Kapelle, or The Red Orchestra, a legendary Soviet spy network.  Making Russia his home after years of underground political activity in Poland, Palestine and France, Trepper uses a commercial enterprise as a cover, enabling him to provide vital information to the Soviets concerning Germany’s plans to attack them.  But Stalin and his intelligence agency ignore it.

Eventually, the Germans capture Trepper and turn his network against the Soviets.  While a prisoner, Trepper manages to inform the Soviets about the German ”Radio Game,” and the Soviets are able to turn this information against the Germans.

Of the 200 fighters arrested by the Germans, 143 were executed, murdered or died in concentration camps.  Only 65 evaded arrest by the Gestapo. This story is dedicated to the Red Orchestra fighters who managed to transmit 1500 messages between May 1940 and November 1942 in their battle to defeat Hitler.
